Right Tribe
Being born into or choosing the “right tribe” is one of Blue Zones® Power 9™ habits for a long and healthy life. We introduced the Power 9 in last month’s CCS Community News: move naturally, know your purpose, down shift, 80% rule, plant slant, wine at 5, right tribe, community, and loved ones first.
According to the Blue Zones Project, the world’s longest-lived people belong to social circles that support healthy behaviors. Ikarians enjoy tight-knit communities that socialize frequently, while Okinawans build “moai” groups of five friends that commit to each other for life. The Framingham Studies showed that behaviors and feelings such as smoking, obesity, happiness and even loneliness are contagious. Therefore, being intentional about the company you keep can impact your lifelong health and well being. Consider using the Power 9 habits to evaluate how your closest friendships are positively contributing to your health, and which areas need improvement.
Join co-workers for a Community Lunch on the 2nd Thursday of every month. Everyone is welcome! The main focus is to get to know your co-workers and share any ideas that you have regarding health and wellness. Bring your lunch and build your tribe!
The next lunch is Thursday, March 14th from 12:00pm-1:00pm in Room 300 at the Bishop Steiner Building. We hope to see you there!
