Kenzee was 17 years old when she learned she was pregnant.”I was excited, but scared,” she said. “I was homeless at the time, and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to provide.” A survivor of mental and physical abuse, Kenzee was determined to find a safe, stable, nurturing place to raise her baby.
Life with a newborn isn’t always easy, but now Kenzee and Christina have the support they need to flourish. “I’ve learned so much about parenting from my house parents. They are great role models,” she said. “I’ve also learned that I am a good mom, and I am strong. Christina is my whole world. She is so amazing.”
While Kenzee has been learning and growing as a parent, baby Christina is hitting all those important newborn milestones as well. “Christina is only a month old, but she is so observant,” Kenzee said. “It’s been amazing watching her become more aware of the world around her.”
Kenzee is currently a freshman in college and is working toward a degree in Psychology. Someday, she would like to be a case worker for the Department of Human Services and help those who have experienced trauma and abuse.
“I’m so grateful for my daughter,” Kenzee said. “I know we wouldn’t be where we are today without the wonderful support we have received at St. Brigid.”
