Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Flourish Core Team is pleased to announce the addition of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) as our 9th Sanctuary Commitment. Our commitments help shape our corporate culture, how we interact with one another and those we serve. Our commitment to DEI isn’t new, but is newly articulated and endorsed by the Archdiocese. Through DEI, we seek to overcome any real or perceived barriers to equity and inclusion of diverse individuals and communities.
Diversity is the representation of all our varied identities and differences (race, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, tribe, caste, socio-economic status, thinking and communication styles, etc.), collectively and as individuals. CCS seeks to proactively engage, understand and draw on a variety of perspectives to improve our organization, our service array and service delivery.
Equity assumes that everyone starts from a different place. Equity seeks to ensure fair treatment, equality of opportunity and fairness in access to information, resources and services to all. We believe this is only possible in an environment built on dignity and respect.
Inclusion builds a culture of belonging by actively inviting the contribution and participation of all people. We believe every person’s voice adds value, and we strive to create balance in the face of power differences.
Our commitment to DEI is now adopted in board policy and will be included wherever we represent our other eight commitments: non-violence, emotional intelligence, social learning, democracy, open communication, social responsibility, growth and change, and self-determination.
