Safety

The holiday season is fast approaching. The days grow shorter, the air is crisp and the leaves color the season. The holidays are a joyous time, but also a time when stress runs high, and we can begin to feel emotional and vulnerable. Fall is a good time to review and update your Safety Plan. As a part of our commitment to being a trauma-informed organization, we should carry a safety plan with us at all times.

A personal safety plan outlines four or five things that you do on the spot to calm yourself when feeling physically, psychologically, socially or morally unsafe. Your plan can include anything from deep breathing, to excusing yourself and taking a walk.
