Robin was born with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She grew up in poverty and, in spite of being a target of bullying and ridicule, her inner spirit of determination prevailed. Although she was told she couldn’t, she worked hard and secured her GED.
As Robin grew older, so did her desire to find meaningful work in the community. She turned to Catholic Community Services’ Employment Services program and found the support she was looking for in her Job Coach, Jordan. Together, Robin and Jordan explored Robin’s interests and talked about positions that would be a good fit for her.
One of Robin’s passions is sports. She plays on several different sports teams throughout the season with Special Olympics.
After honing her interview skills and developing her resume, Robin landed her dream job at the YMCA as a youth sports coach.
Robin settled into her part-time job with the Y and even found time for a second job in retail. Robin is a strong-willed, passionate, and hard-working individual whose abilities outshine the challenges she faces. “I would say to a 15 or 16 year old, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. Believe in yourself and believe that you can,” says Robin.
