Becoming a Direct Support Professional (DSP) means opening your heart to being of service to people who experience disabilities and creating a home environment for them that is safe, comfortable, and loving. Rebecca Beard has been doing just that as a CCS DSP for five years.
“Working with people with disabilities has been a passion since back in middle school,” says Rebecca. “Once I had finished all my assignments, my teachers would allow me to go down to the ERC room to help. During some of these visits, I got to help plan and put on a fundraiser dance for one of my classmates.” Funds were raised to purchase a standing wheelchair to use at school.
Amy Formiller, Rebecca’s supervisor, says, “She is an extraordinary DSP. Rebecca is always willing to pick up shifts and help out whenever needed, she has never called out, and she is always on time for her shifts.”
Rebecca is truly amazing at her job and goes above and beyond not only for her customers, but for her team as well. “This is one of the most rewarding jobs I have had.” Rebecca says, “I feel as if I have learned something new from each person that I have had the pleasure of working with.” Rebecca truly finds joy in her job, “I come to work with an open heart and an open mind for the people I work with,” she says. “Everyone has contributed to who I am now as a person and as an employee.” On her free time, she enjoys diamond painting and going to pirate themed camping events during the summer. Thank you for all your hard work, Rebecca!
