Volunteers Sustain Father Taaffe Homes | Catholic Community Services

Raising funds through car shows, food booths, quilt raffles and BBQ dinners, volunteers, including many CCS, CCSF & ISN staff members, ensure that young moms in crisis have the support they need to protect and nurture their babies.

The Father Taaffe Homes volunteers are probably the most dedicated, creative group of volunteer fundraisers in Oregon,” said CCS Volunteer Services Coordinator Heidi Frederick. “The fundraising effort involves many individuals and groups such as the Knights of Columbus, CCS staff, and various parishes throughout the state.” These volunteers take it upon themselves to plan and coordinate events to ensure that the Father Taaffe Program continues. The program encompasses all services designed to support pregnant and parenting young mothers including the St. Brigid home, St. Monica Apartments and community-based wraparound supports offered through our Fostering Hope Initiative.

Even with the difficulties of the pandemic, dedicated individuals gave generously of their time throughout 2021. Volunteers staffed a food booth at the Benedictine Brewery in Mount Angel every weekend in June. In July, the Keizer and Gervais Knights of Columbus hosted a car show that brought more than 80 cars. In September, volunteers from near and far staffed the Mt. Angel Oktoberfest booth, and in October, the Gervais and Keizer Knights of Columbus hosted the 43rd Father Taaffe Homes Benefit Dinner raising much needed funds for the program.
